Edward J. Fox (ED) |
Ed began
collecting coins after receiving a holiday gift from his Dad of a 1958
proof set. That led to an interest in collecting circulating
coins and filling the blue Whitman albums. Having access to the
coins from a soda machine, it was fun filling the albums. He did
seek the Coin Collecting Merit Badge, and then college interrupted
things. Starting work in Washington DC, Ed became involved with
Scouting and when asked to help a scout with the Coin Collecting Merit
Badge, coin collecting stirred again. At this juncture, Ed discovered large cents and participated at local coin shows in the suburban Maryland area...and quickly started acquiring large cents. Ed joined Early American Coppers in the mid 1970s, and even acquired his first 1794 (an S-70). But life interrupted collecting again until the ANA convention in Baltimore in 2003. He rejoined EAC and has been on the trail of large cents ever since. Ed enjoyed the large cents, especially the die breaks on many of the varieties. He bid on an 1817N12 in 2005, but lost by a big amount. The outcome was an obsession with the 1817N12 and he started searching out the coins as they come up for auction / purchase. In 2017 Ed had an exhibit at the Philadelphia EAC annual conference showing about 58 of the 1817N12s he acquired and developed a scale to describe the various progressions of die state. From his continued interest in 1817N12s, his collection has progressed and some of his findings and analysis is/will be presented on this web site. Edward Fox is also President of Fox Engineering Inc. (a Maryland corporation established in 1978) and retired from the US Government in 2013 after 43+ years of service. In his government career, Mr. Fox served in numerous roles including engineering, computer systems and software development, managment, and ultimately as the Chief (Enterprise) Architect for a well-known Federal agency. Mr. Fox's experiences are in the field of information processing covering embedded production systems, mainframe tracking and accounting systems, personal computing systems, home and office (SOHO) local area network systems, and designing enterprise scale IT infrastructures and architectures. Ed has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston; did graduate work at the University of Maryland, College Park MD; and has a Masters in Public Administration from The American University, Washington DC. |
