GRADING IS SUBJECTIVE.  Since no two circulated coins are identical, trying to put any coin into a grading "box" is very difficult.  A lot depends upon the collector's or dealer's eye.  Some collectors may discount small "bag" marks or edge "dings" others may be ambivalent; some may highly like them and yet others may highly dislike them.

While EAC has a long history of using an EAC developed grading standard which takes into account several factors, many non-EAC dealers do not use that standard; and grading services generally do not use EAC standards.  When others publish pricing guidelines for public consumption such as the Red Books, Blue  Books, Grey Sheet, etc., they tend not to use the EAC standards.  For purposes of this analysis, the standard used is the PCGS Photograde application on Windows.  SOMETIMES the grade is reduced to a net grade due to the severe condition of the coin.  Where the obverse and reverse grade differently but are close, the higher grade is used for this analysis.
